What is Glass Antiquing? Here is a quick over view. Pressed Glass or Patterned Glass (like the ones in your grandmothers cabinet) was roughly produced from 1850 to 1910. As these patterns faded from use, there was a desire to turn back to the more antique looking glass of that time. While there is no set pattern for Glass Antiquing, the look is most times that of a mirror that has begin to lose the mirror (mercury or silver) coating on the back of the mirror. This effect, while very effective, needs to be performed in a way that does not weaken the glass. Amateur glass prep can be a dangerous and should only be performed by a skilled, knowledgeable technician.
